Professor Park Joong-ki of the Department of Eco-Science won the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award at the "16th Jang Bogo Grand Prize" organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Jang Bogo Grand Prize is an event that awards individuals, public institutions, and companies who have achieved outstanding achievements in marine science and technology, marine industry, marine policy, and marine fisheries every year since 2006 through open verification and multi-faceted evaluation of their achievements to inherit and develop the spirit of ocean development by Jang Bogo, the king of the sea.
Professor Park has been recognized for his academic excellence by deciphering the genomes of various aquatic organisms such as as Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins and sea cucumbers for the first time in the world, and was was awarded the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award for his contribution to establishing national resource sovereignty by discovering and preserving about 1,300 species of marine life resources. Professor Park Joong-ki is in charge of research at the Marine Fisheries Life Resources Deposit and Conservation Agency, and is currently working as the head of Ewha Womans University Natural History Museum.
