Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy Holds “2022 Ewha Social Economy Startup Competition”

The Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy (Director: Prof. Lee So-hyun) held the 2022 Ewha Social Economy Startup Competition for undergraduate and graduate students of Ewha on December 1 (Thu). This competition is an event to report the results of the 4th Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy held by Ewha Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy. This year, in particular, the competition was co-hosted by the Ewha College of Art & Design and Startup Ewha and sponsored by Shinhan Bank, Merry Year Foundation, Underdogs, and Startup Ewha and in cooperation with the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency, Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, and Sustainability Lab.


In this year's competition, Lee So-hyun, head of the Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy, Choi Yoo-mi, dean of the Ewha College of Art & Design, Jung Jae-min, head of the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency, Lee Hyung-joon, vice center director of Startup Ewha, and Cho Sang-rae, CEO of Underdogs, selected best teams as judges. The seven selected teams were awarded under the names of the President of Ewha Womans University, Professors of the Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy of Ewha Womans University, Dean of Ewha Womans University College of Art & Design, and CEO of Merry Year Foundation, Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency, Startup Ewha, and Underdogs.


The contest, which began with greetings from Director Lee So-hyun (a professor of Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy). was followed by words of encouragement from Dean Choi Yoo-mi, Vice Center Director Lee Hyung-joon, Director Jung Jae-min, and CEO Cho Sang-rae. Idea pitching was hosted by Professor Kim Min-seok (Adjunct Professor of Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy), and a total of 14 teams and 36 graduates who completed the academy course presented the idea of a social economy start-up developed for three months. A total of seven teams were selected for the award after presentations and question-and-answer sessions conducted. The award team presented a solution developed based on problem recognition for various social problems such as environment, health, women, children, the elderly, and food.

The Grand Prize (given by the Dean of Ewha Womans University) was awarded to the "Lee Bong: Woori" team (Han Do-kyung from Business Dept., Seon Jeong-won from Business Dept./ Chinese Language and Literature Dept.) that suggested the language skill improvement and emotional support by providing air purifying plant contents to those who had international marriages and children of multicultural families in rural areas, and the Social Innovation Award (given by the Director of the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency) was awarded to the "SAO" team (Kang Soo-kyung from the Orchestral Instruments Dept.) that suggested customized performances for families raising infants and children. The Social Challenge Award (given by the CEO of Merry Year Foundation) was awarded to the "Neuru" team (Son Ye-eun from Political Science and Diplomacy Dept., Yoo Ji-yeon from Public Administration Dept.) that suggested to solve the problem of indifference due to the lack of access and opportunities to traditional culture, and the Game Changer Award (given by the CEO of Underdogs) was awarded to the "Shirbot Sherbot" team (Lee Ye-rim from Content Convergence Dept., Lee Hee-won from Economics Dept., and Jeon Ye-won from English language & literature Dept.) that suggested delicious and trendy dessert using local specialty. The Creative Challenge Award (given by the Director of Startup Ewha) was awarded to the "Ssoksoksok" team (Park Soo-min from Consumer Studies Dept., Park Seo-young from ELTEC College, Lee Yeon-eun from Psychology Dept., Yu Ye-na from Education Engineering Dept., and Noh Ha-eun from Computer Science Dept.) that suggested a paid fan letter box for creators that collects messages of support for online creators, and the Social Impact Award (given by the Dean of Ewha College of Art & Design) was awarded to the "KODY" team (Lim Joo-hyun from Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering Dept. and Kim Min-seo from Economics Dept.) that suggested the enhancement of the convenience of life and local commercial area for foreieners visiting Korea, including international students. The Social Value Award (given by the Professor of Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy) was awarded to the "Cranola" team (Lee Mi-el from Political Science and Diplomacy Dept.) that suggested the realization of social values by forging the coexistence of modern people and and local farmers through granola. After the awards ceremony, the event was wrapped up by the Director Lee So-hyun's warm words of support to the graduates who completed all the courses.


The "4th Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy" held four common education sessions, one hackathon, and four mentoring sessions for a total of 10 weeks (2022.9.15-12.1), and held the "Startup Competition" as the last event. Starting with CEO Kim Jung-tae's special lecture on "Social Economy, Start-up, and Social Anter Partnership."" systematic start-up education was conducted, including Professor Kim Min-seok's "Business Model, Business Plan Writing" special lecture, special lecture on "Business Proposal Writing" by CEO Cho Sang-rae (Underdogs), and special lecture on "Pitching Strategy" by CEO Do Hyun-myung (Impact Square). In particular, this year's Academy consisted of mentors from various fields in the social and economic fields to conduct one-on-one mentoring for each team. Mentors such as Professor Kim Min-seok, Kim Sung-geun, head of Merry Year Foundation, Kim Min-jung, CEO of CrePASS Solutions, Jung Yoo-jin, CEO of Triplelight, Park Jung-ho of MYSC, Park Ji-won, CEO of Saibnco, Lee Bu-yong, CEO of G-Work, Lee Eun-jung, CEO of Trenview Korea, Kwak Yesol, Manager of SK Happiness Foundation, and Lee Ha-na, CEO of Melixir Skincare, participated in this Acadamy.
