HOKMA College of General Education Held the “2022 Hokma Day”

HOKMA College of General Education (Dean: Yoo Seong-kyung) held the "2022 Hokma Day" at the ECC Isambong Hall on November 28 (Mon).
HOKMA College of General Education is holding "Hokma Day" for students who enter each desired department/major after exploring their desired career path for a year. More than 200 people participated this year, including students from Hokma College of General Education, students who decided on their department/major after entering HOKMA College, and advisor professors.
2022 Hokma Day opened with a welcoming speech by Min Bae-hyun, the vice president of HOKMA College of General Education, and Yoo Seong-kyung, the dean, under the theme of "Hocances, the last vacances for Hokma students before leaving for a new major.”
Dean Yoo Seong-kyung mentioned, "The process of deciding your own department/major will encourage your growth," adding, "I hope you will sincerely look back on yourself, stick out your hands and hearts around you, and establish a responsible position.”
Students who decided on their department/major after entering HOKMA College prepared senior and junior Q&A sessions, talk shows, and recreation games. During the event, Hokma students flew paper airplanes with their stories written on them, and Kim Kyu-min, who chose Ewha Division of International Studies after entering HOKMA college stressed that "No matter what major you choose, keep your pride as Hokma,” adding, “Hokma is everywhere.” There was also a time for communication through recreation games such as listening to a song for a second, translating the lyrics of the song, and balance game on various situations that can be experienced in Ewha.
The advisor professors delivered sincere messages of encouragement to the students. Professor Kim Yoon-jung emphasized that “a major-searching trip in Hokma is the opportunity for all of you to discover new yourself,” and Professor Oh Yoon-ho cheered for students who completed their major search in Hokma, citing Charles Baudelaire's "Le Voyage.” Followed by the lucky draw event and group photo shooting, the 2022 Hokma Day was successfully completed.
In 2018, Ewha Womans University started to accept students through integrated selection process for the first time for major universities. The successful candidates of the integrated selection can freely explore their desired major by participating in various major classes and programs under the HOKMA College of General Education for a year before deciding on the majors of seven departments in Ewha. HOKMA college also guarantees benefits such as paying full scholarships for the top 50% of first-time successful applicants and providing opportunities to move into the new dormitory (E-House). Hokma students can also freely chose their major without restrictions on the number of people or distinction between liberal arts and natural sciences when advancing to the second grade.
HOKMA College of General Education supports optimized career design by holding various events such as “Hokma Day” as well as “Hokma Forum,” “Major Fair,” and “Major Briefing Event,” providing opportunities for students to grow into creative and convergent talents.
