The National High School Girl Programming Competition celebrated its eighth anniversary this year. This competition, which is held to highlight the importance and value of software technology and to create a foundation for fostering female software talent, is also the only programming competition for high school girls in Korea.

The competition was conducted online on September 17, and students participated in the programming competition through online platform of Ewha Womans University. Ewha held an award ceremony for total 11 teams through strict evaluating on October 19th (Wed) at Engineering Building. At the award ceremony, the deputy director Shin Kyung-sik awarded prizes to students and souvenirs were paid for each winner.

Lee Ye-rin, a third-year student at Yongin Seowon High School, won the grand prize, and Kim Jae-won, a student at Gyeonggi Science High School, won the top prize. In addition, four excellence awards and five encouragement awards were selected. Lee Ye-rin, who won the grand prize, said, "I think it was a great help to students because I was able to check and develop my programming skills through this competition," and added, "I'm very happy to win the grand prize."

"The software field is a very good field for women to develop their capabilities," said Lee Min-soo, head of the Software-oriented University Project Group. "We hope that the active participation of high school girls in this competition will pave the way for many female talents to enter the field."

Meanwhile, Ewha, which was selected as a software-oriented university in 2019, is focusing on fostering software convergence talents with expertise, providing deepening software majors and conducting convergence education, customized track operations for software majors, and activating start-up support.
