Team I-Eco of Moon-soo Park, Il-yeo Park, Seung-hee Seo and Bo-min Sohn, all Ewha 20, gave a presentation on 'Environmentally friendly e-waste disposal plan - Focusing on the case of Agborgbloshie, Ghana,' winning  the Best Presentation Award. The presentation focused on suggesting an appropriate technology(AT) of EwMP, standing for I-Eco’s e-waste Management Process. The EwMP aims to solve the electronic waste problem of Agbogbloshie, Ghana. The EwMP considered not only the treatment system but also economic feasibility.

Meanwhile, team Save The Earth of Ye-eun Jang, Yoo-bin Jeon, Hye-young Cho, and Yeon-woo Joo, gave a poster presentation on ‘'An appropriate technology for removing arsenic from groundwater - Using ceramic balls made from the mixture of oyster shell and bentonite for safe drinking water in Laksam, Bangladesh’. The Save The Earth team finally succeeded in winning the ‘Best Student Presentation Award’. The Save The Earth Team suggested a business model of developing Laksam City Area by solving arsenic contamination of underground water. Developing the City’s Septic Tank would also rehabilitate the economy of the Laksam City, a famous commercial area of Bangladesh.

This year’s achievements should be attributed to the project conducted by students who participated in the "Introductory Design of Environmental Engineering" subject run by Professor Kyung-sook Cho. The project theme was to solve environmental problems in Ghana and Bangladesh, and was carried out based on the ENACT project model developed by Professor Lee Hyun-joo's team from the Science Education department of Ewha. The ENACT project is an educational model that emphasizes the social responsibility and social practice of science and engineering students, and in this class, Dr. Hwang Yo-han (Sungkyunkwan University) taught and advised the students as a co-researcher.

Even after the semester is over, the students who enrolled in the class are currently continuing on the related studies. For instance they are participating in LEAP, Global Frontier Project, SMART International Sustainable Technology Competition, presenting conferences, and researching papers. The I-Eco team operates a YouTube channel named Greenlog that shares ways to practice sustainable development goals (SDGs) in everyday life, while the Save The Earth team is selected for the 2021 Summer Global Frontier to conduct continuous research and seek feedback from students at Chittagong University for local-adaptation of the technologies.
