9 Ewha Students and Alumnae Pass the 57th Certified Tax Accountant Examination

The 57th 2020 Tax Accountant Qualification Examination revealed its successful candidates. According to the announcement, Lee Eun-byul (Korean Art, Class of 2014) ranked first, and a total of nine students and graduates from Ewha reported their passing.



The examination was held last December 5th, and Human Resources Development Service Of Korea announced that a total of 5,378 applicants applied for the examination while 711 out of them passed the exam. There were some difficulties such as schedule changing due to COVID-19, and the acceptance rate slightly declined to 13.22% compared to the previous year.(13.82%)


A tax accountant shall be a tax expert who acts on behalf of the taxpayer and belongs to the eight-major-professions along with an accountant, lawyer, etc. Tax accountants perform duties such as reporting tax, filing applications, and filing tax documents. Likewise, they play an essential role in protecting taxpayers' rights and obligations under the self-reporting tax system.


In this year’s examination, below nine Ewha alumnae passed: Ms. Kim Si-eon (International Studies, 15), Ms. Yoo Soo-ran(Advertising and Public Relations, Class of 2013), Ms. Lee Min-cho(Business Administration, Class of 2018), Ms. Lee Shin-haeng (Social Studies, 12), Ms. Lee Yoon-seo(Korean Language and Literature, Class of 2019), Ms. Lee Eun-byeol(Korean Art, Class of 2014), Ms. Cho So-hyun(Fashion Industry, Class of 2015), Ms. Cho Ye-ri(Chinese Language and Literature, Class of 2016), and Ms. Choi Hyung-yoon(Economy, Class of 2015). 


Ms. Lee Eun-byul, who won the honor of being ranked first this year, said, “I was afraid to challenge myself as the one who did not study related subjects in school at first, but I tried not to limit myself. I am honored and grateful to be able to pass the exam unexpectedly.” She also sent a message of support to all the Ewha family, saying “I wish many Ewha people, including myself, continue to challenge, achieve and have a bright influence in the future.”


The examination of the tax accountant qualification exam is conducted once a year, 

and the first test will be conducted in a multi-choice format with a total of four subjects: Finance, Introduction of Tax Law, Introduction of Accounting, and Selective Law Subject. The second test will be conducted in a four-subject narrative format: Accounting I, II, Tax Law I, and II. After passing the second final examination, the applicants will be trained for 6 months and work as official tax accountants.
