Ewha Journalist Club Hosts the 20th Ewha Journalist of The Year Award

 Ewha Journalist Club (Chairperson: Kyuwon Lee, KBS newscaster), a group of Ewha alumni working in the field of journalism, hosted the 20th Ewha Journalist of The Year Award on May 27th, at 7 p.m.

 

 Ewha Journalist Club has annually awarded alumni who have achieved great feats in the field of journalism since 2001. For the 20th Ewha Journalist of The Year Award, Jungmin Lee, editorial writer for JoongAng Ilbo, Heejun Kim, head of the unification and foreign affairs department at YTN and Hyuna Cho, entertainment center chief producer at KBS were selected.

 Jungmin Lee, editorial writer for JoongAng Ilbo, was recognized for her 32 years of work at JoongAng Ilbo, with scoops and article series contributing to public scrutiny of power and readers’ right to know. Especially after becoming the head of politics department at JoongAng Ilbo and JTBC, she took office as international politics editor at JoongAng Ilbo, the first female editor-in-chief. She is praised for pioneering the newspaper, broadcasting and digital field as a female journalist through these roles.

 

 Heejun Kim, head of the unification and foreign affairs department at YTN was the first female correspondent, conducting exclusive interviews with high-ranking officials of the U.S. government such as former National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. In 2013, with exclusive news on nine North Korean teenage defectors facing deportation in Laos, she was once again recognized as a professional journalist in the field of unification, foreign affairs and security by drawing sensation from several domestic and foreign press as well as human rights groups.

 

 Hyuna Cho, chief producer for entertainment center at KBS planned and produced various programs as the entertainment producer including Sponge, Star Golden Bell, Open Concert, You Hee‑Yeol's Sketchbook, I am Korea (National grand chorus celebrating 70 years of independence), K-Pop World Festival, Mr. House Husband and Boss In The Mirror. She is especially recognized for her ability to shed light on new forms of families such as single father or graduating from marriage and explore the different power dynamics in society from an entertainment perspective, serving as the very first female chief producer for KBS entertainment center.

 

 Ewha Journalist Club is a network of Ewha alumni journalists who are actively working in the field of journalism such as newspaper, broadcasting and magazine. It was founded in 1997 and this year marks the 24th year. Every May, a general assembly is held but this year the event was reduced to the Ewha Journalist of The Year award ceremony due to corona virus. Myeongsoo Chang, Ewha Haktang chairperson, Heisook Kim, president and Jongserl Chun, chief communication officer among others attended the event to congratulate the awardees of the ceremony.
