Ewha Ranks Sixth for the Second Consecutive Year in the 2022 Annual JoongAng Ilbo University Rankings

Ewha Womans University ranked sixth for the second consecutive year in the Annual JoongAng Ilbo University Rankings, demonstrating its strengths in educational conditions and student education performance.

The evaluation, which marked its 29th year in 2022, assessed 45 universities with at least four of the following major tracks: the humanities, social sciences, engineering, natural sciences, medicine, and art and sports. In addition, it evaluated universities using 33 indexes in four categories, consisting of faculty research, educational conditions, student education and performance, and school reputation.

Ewha rose two places to be ranked sixth in the 2021 evaluation, which resumed after a hiatus of a year, and secured the same place in the 2022 evaluation, following Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, and Korea University.

Ewha ranked first in “citation count per humanities and social science paper in Korea”; second in the category of “drop-out rates” with higher rankings indicating lower rates in student education and performance; fourth in the same category for foreign students; seventh in “pure employment rate”; and seventh in the “pure employment rate” and “retained employment rate,” signifying Ewha’s high achievements across various indicators. In particular, Ewha rose two places for the “retained employment rate,” in which it ranked seventh in the previous year.

In addition, upon ranking first in the “citation count per paper of humanities and social science in Korea” in the comprehensive evaluation for the faculty research category for the second consecutive year, Ewha proved its outstanding capacity for humanities and social sciences research. In particular, it was noted for its high citation count in the fields of social welfare and education. The humanities track at Ewha also ranked fifth in the evaluation in the track-based category and first in the pure employment rate in the humanities.

In terms of student education and performance, Ewha’s rise through the ranks in indexes related to start-ups, such as the number of companies launched per student and start-up personnel per student, is recognized as the outcome of the school’s continuous efforts to build Ewha-specific industry-academia cooperation and strengthen partnerships with global companies.

Based on such outstanding achievements, Ewha plans to fully promote the Frontier 10-10 Project in order to advance as a research-oriented university under the vision of “A Creative and Innovative Platform Leading to a Sustainable Society,” thereby leading to expectations of more achievements in research and education through the full implementation of the THE BEST instructional model.
