Dong-Ryeol Ryu is an Associated Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine. He graduated from Yonsei University Medical College in 1995, and received his specialty in Internal Medicine at Severance Hospital in 2000. Under the guidance of Dr. Shin-Wook Kang at Yonsei University, he got Ph.D with a dissertation on podocyte biology in diabetic nephropathy. He completed training in Nephrology in 2005, and followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, Toronto, ON, under Dr. Susan E. Quaggin. He has published about 20 articles in the SCI-class international journals. Recently, his research focuses on the effect of hypoxia-inducible factors on the progression of chronic kidney disease and the assessment of survival rate among dialysis patients. He is a Vice-Secretary General at the Korean Society of Nephrology and a committee member of Kidney Research and Clinical Practice.
