Office of International Affairs Holds the Spring 2016 Welcome Ceremony

On February 25, the Office of International Affairs held the Spring 2016 Welcome Ceremony in Lee Sam-bong Hall of the ECC building to greet international exchange and visiting students for the spring 2016 semester. This event was attended by over 400 participants, including exchange and visiting students from overseas and the volunteers of the Professional Ewhaians at Cultural Exchange (PEACE), a volunteering club for international students. A total of 429 international exchange and visiting students will be studying at Ewha this spring semester, recording the highest number for a spring semester, and the 86 male and 343 female students are from 221 universities in 38 countries.

Comprised of a welcome ceremony and orientation session, the event was begun with a welcome speech delivered by Park Ihn-hwi, Vice President for Office of International Affairs, to greet the new students to Ewha. The following sessions included a recital of Ewha students majoring in Korean music and a role play by PEACE Buddy. An official volunteering club under the Office of International Affairs, PEACE Buddy members serve as mentors to international exchange and visiting students and help them adapt to the life in Korea and at Ewha. The club staged a role play and received positive response by introducing a variety of support activities for international students. The orientation session offered tips for university life and education to prevent crimes and sexual harassment. Lastly, the international students took a campus tour around the buildings they would frequently visit during the semester.

The Office of International Affairs holds a welcome ceremony prior to each semester to greet incoming international students to Ewha and help them adapt to a new environment.
