Korean Language and Writing is regarded as the basic instrumental course in any scholarly field. With the ultimate course objective of broadening one's life, by way of logical language application skill, refinement of emotion, and organized thinking process, this course is composed of both reading and writing. The reading part concentrates on theory and practice of writing by examining the history and characteristics of Korean language and writings, and mastery of effective language usage in everyday life, and also by studying various writing styles such as expository writing, argumentative writing, and practical writing. Upon completion of the course, each student will be able to express her own opinion logically and creatively.

Modern man is too often defined by his function. However, a human being cannot be defined solely as a mere function in the service of a specific end. This course aims to view humanity, not in a particular social, political, or economical context, but at a more fundamental existential level. The spirit of this course, then, reflects the oriental tradition of studying literature, history, and philosophy together. The methods of study used in this course will be analysis, persuasion and appreciation. Themes for the course are: religion as the human will to transcend his mortality; history as a condition of human life; literature as man's self-creation and self-knowledge. These topics will be considered together with the intellectual history of the East and the West. The ultimate goal of this course is to enables to achieve a more comprehensive and constructive view of oneself and of life.
The goal of English I is to prepare students for college-level study in an English environment. Students will work on the reading, listening and study skills they need to understand textbooks and lectures in English. They will also work on their ability to express their ideas in English, orally and in writing. This class will also introduce students to the style of learning most common in English-speaking countries.
This course aims to improve students' basic ability to express themselves both in written and oral English. A variety of sentence constructions will be taught, with particular emphasis on vocabulary, syntax, and style.
